But after spending time out in the sun, don't forget to take a couple of essential steps to look after your skin. After-sun care is more than just a nice routine - it is essential to keep our skin healthy and youthful Why is after-sun care so important? The sun not only brings warmth and puts you in a good mood - it also gives out UV radiation which can penetrate and damage the skin. UV rays can cause DNA damage that can lead to premature skin ageing and even skin cancer. Sun exposure can make the skin feel dry and irritated, which is not only uncomfortable but can also weaken the skin barrier. After-sun care is crucial for soothing, regenerating and hydrating the skin. What does UV radiation do to the skin? UV radiation can damage skin cells and increase the production of free radicals that break down collagen in the skin. This leads to premature ageing, causing wrinkles, fine lines & pigmentation spots. The harmful effects of UV radiation not only affect the outer layer of the skin, but can also have an impact on deeper layers and weaken the skin's immune system. The sun makes the skin dry out faster Sun exposure can disrupt the skin's natural moisture balance, leading to dryness, flakiness & irritation. However, well-hydrated skin is more resistant to environmental influences and ages more slowly. This makes it important to replenish moisture after sunbathing to keep the skin supple and healthy Sun ages skin faster The sun is one of the main causes of premature skin ageing. UV rays can damage collagen & elastin, the proteins responsible for the tightness & elasticity of the skin. This leads to a loss of firmness & resilience, which can cause wrinkles & sagging skin. After-sun care helps to slow down this process and keep your skin looking young. After the sun: replenish moisture stores The aim of after-sun care is to soothe, hydrate and regenerate the skin. Moisturising ingredients strengthen the skin's moisture barrier and protect it from further water loss, preventing dryness and keeping the skin's structure intact. The following products are great for after-sun care: Toning Moisturiser Calming Chamomile: This soothing moisturiser contains chamomile water, known for its balancing and healing properties. The toner is particularly effective at soothing sunburn and instantly cools the skin. Its gentle formula makes it perfect for sensitive skin that has been exposed to the sun. SOS care for sunburn We always have a camomile toner in the fridge for emergencies or even with us on holiday. If you tolerate camomile well and don't have any allergies, this is the best emergency remedy for sun-stressed skin and minor sunburns: Just spray it on and relax! Organic Body & Massage Oil: Our high-quality body oil contains valuable organic plant oils such as argan, borage & sesame oil, which are rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids. These ingredients provide the skin with protection & nutrients, promote cell regeneration & make the skin smooth & soft. The fresh scent of bergamot and litsea is particularly gorgeous on balmy summer evenings! These two soothing products are ideal for your after-sun skincare routine. They offer the perfect combination of natural ingredients that nourish, regenerate & protect the skin - keeping you glowing even after a day in the sun! <![CDATA[Ingredient of the Week: Butcher's Broom]]> 2023-07-19T00:00:00+02:00 2023-07-19T00:00:00+02:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/ingredient-of-the-week-butchers-broom PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ Soothing cosmetics with butcher's broom root powder are ideal for improving redness. This contributes to improved drainage and helps to reduce swelling. Butcher's broom has proven to be a remarkable ingredient for improving rosacea & redness. But when does skin ageing actually start? At what age should you start taking preventive measures? And what happens when our skin ages? Discover the answers in this article and read tips on how to protect your skin from premature ageing. When does skin ageing start and when should you start to take steps? Skin ageing starts in your late 20s or early 30s. From this point onwards, the body's own mechanisms responsible for regenerating the skin gradually begin to decline. It therefore makes sense to start preventing skin ageing at a young age. By taking action early, you can keep your skin healthier and fresher for longer. What happens when the skin ages? As we age, the structure of the skin changes. The collagen structure, which is responsible for the skin's firmness & elasticity, weakens. This leads to wrinkles, fine lines and a loss of tone & firmness. At the same time, your skin's ability to retain moisture decreases, which can lead to dry skin. The regeneration of skin cells slows down, which can lead to a tired complexion Factors that weaken the collagen structure and accelerate skin ageing: Loss of moisture & poorer ability to retain moisture: As you age, your skin's ability to retain moisture decreases. This makes your skin drier & more prone to wrinkles & fine lines. Poorer regeneration & slower cell renewal: Your skin's natural ability to regenerate decreases over time. Your skin cells renew more slowly, which can lead to a tired and sallow complexion External influences: External factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption & pollution can accelerate skin ageing. Sun & UV radiation are particularly harmful and can lead to premature skin ageing. Ingredients that help against skin ageing & free radicals: Antioxidants: Antioxidants like vitamin C & vitamin E protect your skin from free radical damage & support collagen production. Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is the ultimate moisturiser. It can intensively hydrate your skin, reducing wrinkles and fine lines Retinol: Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, promotes cell renewal and collagen-forming processes in the skin, which means it can improve the appearance of wrinkles & fine lines. Tips to prevent skin ageing: Use products with holistic complexes: Instead of focusing on single ingredients, use skincare products that take a holistic approach and contain a variety of ingredients that work synergistically together. Never go out in the sun without sunscreen: The harmful effects of the sun's rays on the skin are one of the main causes of premature ageing. Use care products for sunny days or go into the shade in good time! Intensive moisturiser: Moisturise your skin regularly to maintain its suppleness & elasticity. Use high-quality moisturiser and a special serum that meet your skin's needs Regular facial massages stimulate circulation and promote skin regeneration. Use a face roller to smooth out small wrinkles. To sum up: Skin ageing is a natural process that we all have to face. But early prevention & natural cosmetics with effective ingredients can delay the ageing process of your skin and maintain a youthful appearance. Remember that proper care and protection from harmful influences such as the sun's rays are crucial for keeping your skin healthy and radiant! <![CDATA[Plant Oils for Blemished Skin]]> 2023-06-26T00:00:00+02:00 2023-06-26T00:00:00+02:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/plant-oils-for-blemished-skin PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ Blemished and combination skin usually tend to produce too much sebum. This means that the skin appears oily in at least some areas of your face, and quickly becomes shiny. Even if you wouldn't expect it, the right plant oils are great at regulating sebum production. Non-comedogenic oils are particularly good for blemished skin. Read this article about comedogenic oils to find out more. What causes oily skin on the face? Oily and shiny patches on your face occur when the skin's own sebum production gets out of balance. There are many possible causes for this: hormonal fluctuations, diet, puberty, environment, etc. The result is often blemishes and spots. Drying out is not always the solution! Have you ever tried to get rid of oily patches by letting the skin dry out or simply not taking care of it at all? Unfortunately, this can backfire! Sometimes, the reason for excess sebum production is that the skin was already dry before. Our skin always tries to regulate itself. In this case, less skincare would only result in the skin producing even more sebum, because it lacks a protective layer. If we want to improve our skin it is important to pay attention to the cause of problems and observe changes. Oil & skin: a love story We love using plant oils on our skin! They have 2 huge benefits: Oils are much closer to the skin's own sebum than creams There is a plant oil to help in almost any situation Find the right products for you and integrate plant oils into your skincare routine - your skin will thank you! 1st step: oil cleansing Plant oils clean your skin thoroughly and gently, removing even stubborn makeup traces without irritating the skin. Find out all about it in this article about the oil cleansing method and discover our Organic Cleansing & Detox Oil. 2nd step: Nourishing facial oil There are many plant-based oils that are effective at getting rid of impurities. These include jojoba oil, grape seed oil or prickly pear seed oil, to name but a few. Each oil has different benefits and ingredients so we mix together the most effective oils against impurities in our Organic Beauty Oil for Blemished & Combination Skin: Numerous natural antimicrobial ingredients in this facial oil act as a gentle disinfectant for inflamed skin. It has a regulating effect on metabolic processes and regenerates the skin barrier to give you a clear complexion in the long term. It contains these fantastic plant oils that are particularly suitable for blemished skin: Grape seed oil Evening primrose oil Passion fruit oil Black cumin oil Moringa oil Argan oil A high content of linoleic acid benefits the sebaceous gland outlets, which leads to an improvement in acne. Passion fruit oil, evening primrose oil, and black cumin oil have a calming and pain-relieving effect. Black cumin oil also helps to balance and cleanse the skin. Tocopherol (vitamin E) in argan oil protects against harmful environmental influences. These properties make this facial oil the perfect cocktail for blemished & combination skin. Use every morning and evening - your skin has never been so good! <![CDATA[Skin & Mental Health: How Stress Effects Your Complexion]]> 2023-04-06T00:00:00+02:00 2023-04-06T00:00:00+02:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/skin-mental-health-how-stress-effects-your-complexion PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ Symptoms such as dry skin, pimples, or red patches can signal that you need to take a little more care of yourself. Stress has a negative effect on the skin and can also cause hormonal changes. Some people experience redness on their faces when they are nervous. These patches usually disappear again quite quickly, but it shows how much and especially how quickly well-being can affect your skin! Stress can also intensify existing irritations: If you tend to suffer from acne, for example, it can increase during a stressful exam week or during a busy week at work. Stress can even cause dry skin: It can affect the lipid layer so that moisture is lost more easily and the skin dries out. This can manifest itself as flaky and dry patches, for example on your cheeks and chin. Itching or skin rashes can also be caused by stress. Whether you're under pressure at work or suffering from a lack of sleep - stress uses up energy, so make sure to recharge your batteries regularly! Maybe you've already noticed that you get spots or red skin just before big events - just when you want to look your best! What you can do about it: Plan in advance! We recommend regular deep-cleansing facial masks a few weeks before important occasions to prepare the skin and prevent blemishes. Less is more! Our skin can also be stressed by too many ingredients or beauty products. Less is often more! Rebuild your skin barrier by using natural products. We recommend our organic Toning Moisturiser Calming Chamomile and our Organic Fragrance Free Beauty Oil For Sensitive Skin: They help to get irritated and sensitive skin looking its best again! Of course, if you have more serious skin problems, make sure to consult a doctor first. Keep your life in balance Too many appointments at work, too many commitments in your private life - "too much" is never good, no matter what! If you have a stressful week at the office, consciously take time for regeneration in the evenings and on weekends: try to relax, read a good book, order your favourite meal instead of cooking - rest and recharge your batteries for the next day. Especially around holidays, such as Christmas or Easter, many people often overload themselves: You want to buy presents for the children, you need to visit your parents and in-laws - and then there was that cake you promised to bake. Remember to put yourself first occasionally - don't worry, your family & friends will like you even when you say no - even if it's just for the sake of your complexion! <![CDATA[The 3 Most Common Types of Spots and How to Get Rid of Them!]]> 2023-03-02T00:00:00+01:00 2023-03-02T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/the-3-most-common-types-of-pimples-and-how-to-get-rid-of-them PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ Acne can come in many different shapes and forms. Spots not only look different but have different causes and react differently to treatments. Find out how to treat different types of blemishes here! The 3 most common types of spots: Blackheads Pustules in the upper layer of the skin Under-the-skin spots (blind pimples) The right skincare to prevent acne & pimples: Following a good skincare routine that suits your skin type is half the battle! The right care can stop spots before they form. Some top tips are to not supply your skin with too much or too little oil, to use organic products, and to not use too many different products or too much makeup so your skin can breathe. Support skin regeneration and don't let your skin dry out. An important step is to avoid contamination from the outside. For example, don't touch your face with unwashed hands, because bacteria and dirt promote inflammation. Cleanse your face thoroughly before going to bed to remove dirt and excess sebum. Antioxidant ingredients such as tocopherol or vitamin C reduce oxidative stress, which can create free radicals and promote inflammation. Use a non-comedogenic facial oil: Organic Beauty Oil for Blemished & Combination Skin Organic Liquid Gold Well-Aging Serum for dry and mature skin A good skincare routine should include: Pore-deep cleansing best done with a mild & thorough Cleansing Oil A Toning Moisturiser An Organic Face Oil that suits your skin type and provides optimal care & protection Clearing Face Masks 1-2 times a week, which can help to prevent impurities and under-the-skin spots Of course, the food that we eat and hormonal changes also affect our skin. For example, you may have noticed that you always get the same type of pimples a few days before your period. That is almost certain to be down to hormones. But that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do about it! This is only an overview of the most common types of pimples. Try out the treatment carefully to make sure it is right for you. If there is no improvement or you have particularly painful and inflamed pimples and you don't know what the cause is - the next step is to see a doctor. 1. Blackheads Blackheads are actually not as bad as you think. Why? Because they are the only type of spot that comes without inflammation - so they don't hurt. But of course that doesn't mean they look nice. What helps against blackheads? Pore-deep cleaning & vitamin C To get rid of blackheads, it's best to cleanse your skin with a gentle but thorough cleansing oil. Afterwards, you can use a face mask with vitamin C to refine the pores. This has a clarifying effect and creates an even complexion. To help stop blackheads appearing in the first place, we recommend our Organic Green Superfood Mask for Blemished & Combination Skin. It is antibacterial, promotes healing, and reduces inflammation. This makes it perfect for preventing blackheads and oily skin: nettle and tulsi powder have a regulating effect on sebum production and the skin's immune system, restoring the skin's natural balance. 2. Pustules Pustules are everything you would think of as classic spots - small to medium-sized pustules that form yellow pus-filled bubbles on the surface after a few days at the latest. Even if they are inflamed they tend to be located in the upper layer of the skin so it requires little effort to get their contents to the surface. It's also easy to give your skin a helping hand. What helps against pustules? Face masks, hot compresses, or steam baths Pustules are often caused by too much or too little sebum production, or also when the skin's own sebum can no longer drain away because pores are clogged. Try using a clarifying face mask for pore-deep cleansing. But if the pustules are inflamed and red, or you have sensitive skin, we recommend treating them with hydrolates. A hot compress sprayed with a clarifying and soothing toner, for example, can be a good treatment. Anti-inflammatory toners for acne & blemished skin: Farewell Rosacea Calming Chamomile Rock Rose - Lavender Orange Blossom - Green Tea A balancing steam bath with a few drops of lavender essential oil is also balancing while rose has a clarifying effect and moisturises. The warm steam opens the pores and allows sebum to drain away. Even if it's tempting and seems like a quick fix - keep your hands off! Squeezing spots is rarely the solution. The pus might be gone but this aggravates the underlying inflammation and may delay the healing process even more. 3. Pimples under the skin Probably the nastiest type of pimples is the deep-seated, under-the-skin spots, which can sometimes be really painful. They have the same cause as pimples on the surface of the skin but are usually just deeper. This type of spot often appears before your period, but can also be caused by a high-sugar diet and alcohol. Fast food is particularly good at causing under-the-skin spots on your chin. What helps against under-the-skin spots? Following a skincare routine with organic and effective products, cooling the skin Prevention really is better than cure. Try to stick to a healthy and balanced diet and use regular face masks. Support the regeneration of the skin so that nasty blind pimples can't form so easily in the first place. The fruit acid peel in our Organic Strawberry & Superfoods Skin Glow Mask accelerates skin renewal, cleanses, and refines pores. Our Organic Superfood Peeling Mask for a Refined Complexion with fine seeds as exfoliators also stimulates cell renewal, helping to prevent under-the-skin spots. If it's already too late and that red bump is already clearly visible, here's what you can do: Cool the affected area by putting your Toning Moisturiser in the fridge, spraying it on a cleansing pad, and leaving it on for 5-10 minutes. You can also use ice cubes - just make sure never to put an ice cube directly on your skin. This can soothe the inflammation. If it doesn't get better, it's time to go to the doctor! A zinc ointment can also help to get rid of under-the-skin spots: Zinc has an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory effect, and dries out pimples. The problem with zinc: The base for zinc ointments is often lanolin, which may be comedogenic, or it might contain mineral oil-based ingredients like petrolatum. What's more, zinc is a mineral ingredient that is mined or extracted, meaning that it cannot be certified as organic. Only ingredients that are grown can be given this certification. Harmless, vegan & organic alternatives to zinc: Chamomile: It dries out blackheads and pimples, has a calming effect, and helps to reduce inflammation Aloe Vera: Provides intensive moisture, has a cooling and balancing effect. Yarrow: Has an anti-inflammatory, slightly astringent and healing effect in the top layer of the skin. Jojoba oil: Proven remedy for pimples which is suitable for the treatment of oily and sensitive skin. We hope you found your type of spot in this article and a treatment method that suits you and helps! As always, if your acne is severe, make sure to see a doctor. <![CDATA[Skin Care For Your 30s And Beyond]]> 2023-02-23T00:00:00+01:00 2023-02-23T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/skin-care-for-your-30s-and-beyond PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ You just turned 30!? Congratulations! There is no cut-and-dried answer to the question of when to start using anti-ageing products. But certain processes such as cell division and collagen production slow down once you hit 30, meaning that your skin quickly starts to lose its fresh appearance. With the right care, you can slow down skin ageing and delay the typical signs such as dryness and wrinkles. Skin ageing begins at birth. But until around your 30th birthday, your skin stays naturally fresh. After that, it is glad of a little support to help counteract wrinkles and dry skin. These signs of skin ageing occur more frequently after 30: Cell division slows down, meaning that the epidermis becomes thinner The connection between the epidermis and the connective tissue becomes weaker The skin produces less collagen & elastins The skin becomes more fragile and less elastic The fatty tissue under the skin is broken down Fine lines become more visible/deeper Sebaceous glands produce less sebum and the skin becomes drier & rougher The skin is not as good at staying hydrated Increasing hyper- & depigmentation Your genes do determine how quickly your skin ages. However, many signs of skin ageing (about 80%) can be attributed to our environment, especially UV radiation. It is important to keep in mind that when you are young the epidermis renews itself approximately every 28 days. In older skin, this process takes up to twice as long. Here are our top two tips for counteracting skin ageing: Eat yourself young! Make sure your diet is rich in antioxidants (flavonoids, vitamins A, C and E, coenzyme Q10, carotenoids) Prevention & care Choose cosmetics that are high in antioxidants to protect against UV damage, etc. Use the power of antioxidants! Luckily, there are many fantastic plant-based ingredients that can help delay signs of ageing. Here are a few of our favourite ingredients for mature skin: Pomegranate seed extract Vitamin E (e.g. in wheat germ oil & argan oil) Phytosterols Vitamin C (in our Organic Strawberry & Superfoods Skin Glow Mask) How to take good care of your skin once you hit 30! Once you reach your thirties we recommend a combination of our beauty oils and toning moisturisers for daily care. You should also treat your skin to a face mask 1 to 2 times a week. This is the best way for active ingredients, especially antioxidants, to reach the various layers of the skin in water- and oil-soluble form. Maybe you are even pregnant or have your children with you. Thinking about what women refugees have to go through makes us both angry and sad. So we have teamed up with UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe Germany for UNHCR to support women on the run for International Women's Day. Donate here between 7th and 9th March 2023. We will match all donations received during that time from our site. 🖤 DONATE HERE 🖤 More refugees than ever before Some 103 million people are on the run worldwide. That's more than 1% of the world's population, and that number is rising dramatically. Since the end of 2021, 13.6 million more people have had to leave their homes. The main reason for this 15% increase is the war in Ukraine. The majority of refugees are women and children. The current situation is particularly severe in Turkey and Syria: Turkey is the country that currently hosts the most refugees - 3.7 million. The earthquake in February this year thus also hit many people who had already lost everything. Things are made worse by a harsh winter with temperatures around freezing point. And, after a year of war, the situation still hasn't improved in Ukraine: Many families have lost their homes and are waiting in makeshift shelters, both in Ukraine and abroad, hoping for news that the war has ended. War always hits the weakest the hardest. Those who suffer are often children, the elderly, and the socially disadvantaged. Women play a central role in crisis regions: it is often they who take care of basic services: medical facilities, childcare, etc. Fleeing is never voluntary! Women generally flee for the same reasons as men: for political or religious reasons, or because they belong to a specific ethnic or social group. In addition, however, there are women-specific reasons for fleeing that do not affect men in the same way, such as sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation, forced marriages, or domestic violence, which force women to leave their homes. Violence against women When social structures change in a country, the propensity for violence often increases. This can result in kidnappings and systematic raping of women and girls, crimes which are also often part of war strategy. Victims of violence often suffer long-term psychological consequences throughout their lives, from depression to suicidal thoughts and social isolation. The Corona pandemic has further fueled the situation For example, there has been an increase in violence against women refugees, and not only in their home countries. The low-wage sector, as well as areas of informal work, have often completely collapsed as a result of the pandemic, causing many women to lose their livelihoods. The Corona pandemic has also led to an increase in poverty in many countries. And, unfortunately, when poverty increases, so do instances of forced marriage, child labour, and human trafficking. Many refugee girls around the world have had to abandon their education and work instead, or even leave their homes. Precarious conditions on the run Women are also often exposed to dangerous situations while fleeing: sexual violence, no protection, no hygienic care, often no access to food for days. Many have their children with them. It is difficult for them to obtain items such as sanitary products or nappies. Pregnant and sick women have no access to medical care. Women as a sign of hope Despite all these hurdles, women and girls show great resilience, ingenuity, and courage in overcoming these problems. In many cases, they're the ones who find the strength to rebuild not only their own lives but also the lives of their families. Aid organisations play a central role in this area: for example, they ensure that children born while on the run are also issued birth certificates. The UNHCR specifically addresses the needs of women in all its programmes, focusing, for example, on education for girls and women or job programmes to enable women to gain their independence. At the same time, women need a safe place to sleep and separate toilet facilities - basics that cannot be forgotten. The UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe Germany for UNHCR works to improve the lives of women "Our goal is to build on the rich experiences, skills, and aspirations of women and help them realise their full potential - through better access to education, decent work, and legal and health services." UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Fillippo Grandi The UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe is one of the organisations that help as quickly as possible on the ground after disasters such as the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. They take into account the specific needs of women - and we would like to support their work. Help women on the run to rebuild their lives - we will match all donations received between 7th and 9th March 2023! 🖤 DONATE HERE 🖤 <![CDATA[How to Use Hair Oil - Three Top Tips!]]> 2023-02-13T00:00:00+01:00 2023-02-13T00:00:00+01:00 https://www.pureskinfood.uk/info/blog/how-to-use-hair-oil-three-top-tips PURE SKIN FOOD uk@pureskinfood.net https://www.pureskinfood.uk/ Is your hair dry and brittle? Make dry, brittle ends a thing of the past! 1 product - 4 uses You can use the Organic Gorgeous Hair Oil in different ways, depending on what your hair needs right now: Intensive hair treatment/hair mask If you have dry ends and damaged hair, we recommend an intensive treatment before washing your hair: Massage a little of the hair oil into the lengths and/or tips and leave it in for 10 minutes. Then wash out normally. Leave-in care & protection After washing, massage a little into the tips and lengths of towel-dried hair. You won't need much Gorgeous Hair Oil. Start with just a few drops and add more gradually until you've found the right amount for your hair. SOS for irritated and dry scalps If your scalp is tight and itchy, or you have dandruff, massage some of the oil into your scalp with your fingertips and leave it in briefly. Then wash out as usual. For beautiful eyebrows Are your eyebrows not doing what you want? Just a drop is enough to smooth them into shape. Special tip for boyfriends and husbands: Help yourself to your partner's Organic Gorgeous Hair Oil - it is great for beard care too! Beautiful hair without harmful silicone! Unfortunately, silicone is still found in many conventional hair care products but this ingredient is both harmful to the environment and not good for your hair. You might be impressed with the shine at first, but frequent use can cause a build-up effect: Particularly when using several products containing silicone, such as shampoo, conditioner, and styling products, too much silicone accumulates on your hair over time. This makes your hair look dull. It gets dustier and dirtier as well as becoming more prone to frizz. Exactly what you're trying to prevent. Use natural hair oil regularly and preventively for healthy, strong and shiny hair, and do without synthetic ingredients!
